PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an amorphous refractory which has excellent dissolution loss resistance and can control the generation of spalling caused by a dense tissue, by compounding an amorphous refractory raw material with a flaky aggregate in a specific ratio and controlling porosity to a specific value or less. SOLUTION: The flaky aggregate is compounded in an amount of 2 to 50 wt.%, and the porosity of the amorphous refractory is <=21%. When the longest side of the flaky aggregate is preferably 0.5 to 50 mm, a gas can be removed to produce the dense amorphous refractory having a small porosity. The flaky aggregate is obtained by forming a raw material consisting mainly of an alumina-based material, a magnesia-based material, a mullite-based material or an alumina-magnesia-based material into a plate-like or belt-like product, calcining the formed product and then crushing the calcination product, or by crushing a refractory such as bricks or concrete blocks and then sieving the crushed product. The refractory raw material includes alumina-based materials, magnesia-based materials, zirconia-based materials, carbonaceous materials, silica-based materials and the mixtures comprising two or more kinds of the materials. Cracks generated on the surface of the amorphous refractory, the propagation of the cracks into the inner portions of the amorphous refractory, and so on, can be controlled to prevent the progress of dissolution loss and spalling. |
