PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a rectangular article having flat side surfaces substantially free from defects. SOLUTION: An apparatus for producing a substantially flat article having at least one substantially flat edge has a molding means for molding the substantially flat article having at least one substantially flat edge and this molding means has a gate 10 for enabling a molten plastic material to flow in the molding means. This apparatus has the molten plastic material supply source communicating with the gate 10 through a passage and further has a means for extruding the residual plastic material in the passage into the cavity space formed by the molding means so as to be capable of obtaining a side edge substantially free from a gate defect for the substantially flat article.
