PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seam detector of a tennis ball which is capable of detecting seam parts of not only white but red and blue as well, does not require the periodic exchange of parts and allows the inexpensive execution of the detection. SOLUTION: This device detects the seam part of the tennis ball 1 consisting of a melton part containing fluorescent dyes in its surface and the seam part of the white, red or blue. The device includes a light emitting diode 2 for irradiating the surface of the tennis ball 1 with blue light, a blue film 3 for allowing the transmission the reflected light obtained by the reflection of the blue light cast from the light emitting diode 2 at the surface and a line sensor 4 for detecting the reflected light transmitted through the blue film 3.
