PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance general-purpose properties of feedstock treatment by enabling a variety of treatments in accordance with the purpose, and to effect functionalization with respect to the treatment of a variety of feedstocks and simplification of equipment. SOLUTION: In a rotary furnace 2 having an outer cylinder 6 and an inner cylinder 7, substances to be treated is supplied from inlets 16 and 19 to an outer passage 14 and an inner passage 15 and recovered from outlets 17 and 20 through a treating passage 18. In this instance, the substances are simultaneously separately treated in the outer passage 14 and the inner passage 15 or treated from the outer passage 14 through the inner passage 15 or in the outer passage 14 alone. In addition, improvements for enhancing functions have been made with respect to heat release from the inner cylinder to the outer passage 14, ideal heat transfer between the outer passage 14 and the inner passage 15, and complete combustion of a combustible gas to be generated in the outer passage 14 in a combustion chamber 41 and the inner passage 15, water vapor present in the outer passage 14 and the inner passage 15, division of the outer passage 14 from the inner passage 15 by a dividing plate and agitation therein, and simplification of the entire driving system.
