PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a high strength steel sheet high in impact absorbing energy and capable of increasing automotive collision safety and lightening in weight, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This high strength steel sheet has a chemical compsn. contg., by weight, 0.05 to 0.30% C, <=2.0% Si, 0.01 to 2.0% Al, 0.5 to 4.0% Mn, 0 to 5.0% Ni, <=0.1% P, <=0.1% S and <=0.01% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and also satisfying 1.5-3.0×C<=Si+Al<=3.5-5.0×C and Mn+(Ni/3)>=1.0%, and in which the amt. of the steel sheet to be baked and hardened is >=50 MPa.
