PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a downstream process by which the separation and purification of a useful product to be aimed at from a culture fluid are simultaneously and efficiently carried out by coating the surface of an ion exchanger with a nonionic material. SOLUTION: A coating layer of a nonionic material is formed on the surface of an ion exchanger to produce the objective coated ion exchanger used in the separation and purification of the objective useful component in a process for producing a bio-product such as protein, yeast, polysaccharide or lipid. When the surface of the ion exchanger is coated with a polysaccharide so as to form the coating layer, the polysaccharide is deposited on the surface of the ion exchanger by using a solution of the polysaccharide in dimethyl sulfoxide or dimethylformamide. The separation and purification of the objective useful product from a culture fluid are simultaneously and efficiently carried out by using the coated ion exchanger. The ion exchanger is an anion exchanger and the nonionic material is one or more kinds selected from polysaccharide, polyol, polyamide, polyester, or the like. |
