PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide adjustable range of damping force characteristic, directly control damping force, and reduce load to a solenoid in a damping force adjusting type hydraulic shock absorber. SOLUTION: Oil flow generated by sliding of a piston 5 in a cylinder 2 is directly controlled by pressure control valves 30, 43 on an expanding side and a contracting side to change pressure in back pressure chambers 26, 36 and adjust injection-valve opening pressure of main disc valves 22, 34, and an adjustable range of damping force is widened. The expanding side and contracting side pressure control valves 30, 43 control injection-valve opening pressure based on balance of thrust at a slider 51 generated by difference in pressure receiving area of step parts 71, 72 of the slider 51 and of sub-disc valves 54, 55 in valve chests 52, 53 against thrust of a proportional solenoid 58, and load to the proportional solenoid 58 can be reduced by reducing the difference in pressure receiving area. |
