PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface roughening method and a manufacturing method for an aluminum supporting body for lithographic printing plate by which treatment irregularity, called streak/picture quality irregularity, caused by the difference in the aluminum dissolving rate due to the difference in the azimuth of crystal grains is hardly generated and treatment irregularity caused by the electrochemical surface treatment is hardly generated. SOLUTION: In the surface roughening method for the aluminum supporting body for lithographic printing plate by which the desmutting treatment is executed in an acidic aqueous solution after the execution of the preliminarily electrochemical surface roughening in an aqueous solution comprising primarily hydrochloric acid, the desmutting treatment is executed by using an auxiliary electrode tank of an electrochemical surface roughening device while the aluminum plate is being subjected to the cathod electrolytic treatment. Further, the aluminum plate is subjected to the etching treatment, anodizing treatment, etc., to manufacture the aluminum supporting body for lithographic printing plate.
