PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize the thermal energy which was disposed in the past to save energy by providing an injection nozzle on the head of a cylinder, and injecting water into the cylinder according to the timing of combustion stroke of intake, compression, combustion and exhaust strokes to cause a steam explosion. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a water tank 3 and a pump 4, so that the water raised in pressure by the pump 4 can be supplied to an injection nozzle 2 provided on the head of a cylinder. When the internal combustion engine reaches the temperature capable of steam explosion during the operation, the injection nozzle 2 is opened according to the timing of combustion stroke of the intake, compression, combustion and exhaust strokes of the internal combustion engine to inject a proper quantity of water into the cylinder. According to this, the steam explosion is caused, and the power obtained by this explosion is transmitted to a crankshaft similarly to the power generated by combustion of air-fuel mixture, and taken out to the outside. |
