PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large ship winch with a construction permitting the solution of all problems about known large ship winches mostly used in general. SOLUTION: A ship winch which is set up on a deck of a ship for winding and delivering a wire, comprises a hydraulic motor 5 having at least nine hydraulic cylinders in a radial direction, wherein a rotating shaft 3 disposed at the ends of con'rods via crank members is rotated by the sequential forwarding/ backwarding operation of the con'rods of the cylinders. The rotating shaft 3 of the hydraulic motor 5 which is formed to permit variable rotating speeds in two steps by the selective control of the number of the hydraulic cylinders to be driven is connected to directly to the rotating shaft 3 of a winding barrel of the winch to produce a change in rotating speed of the winch winding barrel.
