PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasive that has an abrasive layer on its backing and is appropriate for polishing end faces of optical-fiber connector ferrules and the like through a selection of appreciably dispersible abrasive. SOLUTION: An abrasive 1 has, on a backing 2 of a thickness of 25 to 150μm, an abrasive layer 3 including a fine abrasive powder and a binder. The find abrasive powder is a fine titanium oxide powder of a mean grain size of 0.01 to 4μm surface-treated with alumina or an agent including alumina and silica. The composition can polish end faces of a connector ferrule 5 or the like smooth.
