PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pigment which is used for aqueous dispersions and can easily be dispersed in aqueous media by applying specific treatments to a material to be treated. SOLUTION: This pigment 4 used for aqueous dispersions comprises pigment particles 3 which are obtained by introducing hydrophilic functional groups 2 to the surfaces of a treating material 1 by a drying treatment enabling the introduction of the hydrophilic functional groups 2 to the surfaces of the material 1 and further applying a fine particle-forming treatment and/or a treatment for forming finely uneven surfaces to the particles. Therein, the drying treatment is preferably a low temperature surface plasma treatment or a surface treatment using active oxygen generated by the irradiation of ultraviolet light.
