PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new benzoxazole derivative having excellent herbicidal activity when included as an effective ingredient and useful for a herbicide. SOLUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I (wherein R1 to R7 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl or the like; and X is O, S, SO or SO2), and is e.g. 1-(5-fluorobenzoxazol-2-yl)-1-(4-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy)pro pane. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (wherein Y is a halogen or the like) with a compound of formula III (wherein X' is O or S) in a solvent (e.g. diethyl ether, etc.), in the presence of a base (e.g. triethylamine, etc.). The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting 2-aminophenol with 2-halocarboxylic acids.
