PRODUCTION OF 5-(2-SUBSTITUTED-4-NITROPHENYL)-OXAZOLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for 5-(2-substituted-4-nitropnenyl)- oxazole that is useful as a starting substance for a therapeutic agent for hepatitis C. SOLUTION: 5-(2-substituted-4-nitrophenyl)-oxazole-carboxylic acid is decarboxylated, preferably in the presence of a protic compound-containing aprotic amide. In a preferred embodiment, the 5-(2-substituted-4-nitro-phenyl)- oxazole is 5-(2-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)oxazole, and in another embodiment, the 5-(2-substituted-4-nitro-phenyl)-oxazole is 5-(2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl)-oxazole.
