<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a porous glass base material, capable of corresponding to the enlargement of the porous glass base material without enlarging the apparatus. SOLUTION: This apparatus for producing a porous glass base material by jetting a glass raw material gas from a burner to provide glass fine particles in oxyhydrogen flame, and to accumulate the glass fine particles on a starting substrate, has a reaction vessel 1 having at least the burner 4 for forming the glass fine particles, an opening for the burner 4 and/or an air intake 18, and an exhaust port 17, and further having a coolant passage 11 for passing a coolant, installed in the outer surface 12 of the reaction vessel.</p> |
