PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an address correcting apparatus capable of erasing code data applied to the mail erroneously classified on the side of a collection and delivery station as a postal delivery station in the classifying processing stage on the side of the postal delivery station to apply the correct code data of the postal delivery station thereto. SOLUTION: An input display device 101 inputs the image of mail on which a bar code is printed to display the same and an operator judges whether the mail is one classified to a correct postal delivery station on the basis of the displayed image of the mail and, when the mail is erroneously classified mail, an input device 102 inputs a postal code and a processor 103 refers to a postal code/postal delivery station conversion data base 104 to judge whether the postal delivery station corresponding to the inputted postal code is present and, in the case of presence, the bar code related to this postal delivery station is formed and the bar code on the mail is erased by a bar code erasing device 105 to print the formed bar code on the mail by a bar code printer.
