PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent for inhibiting the formation of dioxins, which is applicable to a small incinerator, a domestic incinerator, or the like by coating the surface of an iron oxide pigment with a polymeric material and/or a pigment. SOLUTION: An agent for inhibiting the formation of dioxins, prepared by coating the surface of an iron oxide pigment with a polymeric material and/or a pigment is incorporated in a polymer article such as a molding, a film, paper, or a fiber. To simply inhibit dioxins from forming in a refuse incinerator, it is effective to add an iron oxide pigment to a combustion gas. If this is done, it is possible to decrease the amount of dioxins formed to about one seventh and to decrease harmful exhausts such as CO and HCl gases to about one tenth to one twentieth. However, in a small incinerator or a domestic incinerator, equipment for adding an iron oxide pigment is required. It is therefore difficult to adopt this process. Unlike that, a polymer article containing the above agent can effectively inhibit the formation of dioxins by itself and can be incinerated in a small incinerator or the like without adding an iron oxide pigment to the incinerator, etc.
