PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the enlargement of an actuator or the extensive consumption of electric energy by regulating the output hydraulic pressure of a hydraulic source, compounding the output of the actuator with the output hydraulic pressure of a pressure regulator means, and imparting the resulting hydraulic pressure to a wheel brake. SOLUTION: The spring characteristics and set load of simulator springs 72, 77 in first and second operation simulators 65, 68 are selected, whereby the brake force by the output hydraulic pressure of an actuator 12 and the brake force by the hydraulic pressure obtained by regulating the output hydraulic pressure of an accumulator 13 by a pressure regulator means 14 can be generated in an optional set ratio from the initial stage of brake operation. Thus, even if the responsiveness of brake force generation by the output hydraulic pressure of the actuator 12 is low, it can be covered with the brake force by the brake hydraulic pressure obtained by regulating the output hydraulic pressure of the accumulator 13 by the pressure regulator means 14.
