PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the strain partially caused in a supporting body in a coating part, to suppress air penetration between a supporting body and a gravure roll, and to prevent coating failure. SOLUTION: In an apparatus for applying a coating material 10 to a continuously moving flexible supporting body 2 while rotating in the direction opposed to the moving direction of the supporting body 2, an air jetting mechanism 4 is installed at a position on the opposite to a gravure roll 3 through the supporting body 2 in a non-contact manner with the supporting body 2 to continuously apply air pressure to a coating part. Consequently, the strain to be caused in the supporting body is removed by the coating part and air penetration between the supporting body 2 and the gravure roll 3 is suppressed and coating failure can be prevented. Further, by adding a spraying position adjustment mechanism and an air blow pressure adjustment apparatus to the air jetting mechanism 4, the apparatus can quickly deal with the alteration of coating conditions of such as the viscosity of a coating material. Further, by combining an expander roll with the apparatus, a more uniform coating can be formed.
