PURPOSE: A plasma display panel is provided to improve brightness of a picture by increasing an aperture ratio and generating a discharge only in a display area. CONSTITUTION: X electrodes and Y electrodes are arranged across each other in the order of X1, Y1, Y2, X2, X3, Y3, Y4, X4. A C1 between X1 and Y1 electrodes, a C2 between Y2 and X2 electrodes, a C3 between X3 and Y3 electrodes and a C4 between Y4 and X4 electrodes mean respective display areas. A discharge between X electrode and Y electrode(X1 - Y1, Y2 - X2, X3 - Y3, Y4 - X4) of the display area is generated due to a voltage difference for the discharge of the display area. A voltage difference becomes zero because a voltage pulse of the same phase is applied between Y electrode and - Y electrode(Y1 - Y2, Y3 - Y4) and between X electrode and - X electrode(X2 - X3) of the non-display area. Accordingly, the discharge is not generated in the non-display area regardless of a distance between electrodes of the non-display area. |
