PURPOSE: A method for performing conversions between a V5.2 protocol and a public switching telephone network(PSTN) subscriber protocol is provided to carry out the conversions between the V5.2 protocol, which is recommended as a signaling protocol between an access network(AN) and a local exchange(LE) in a wireless local loop(WLL) system, and the PSTN subscriber protocol, by an information filed mapping, so as to interwork the WLL system with a PSTN exchange which does not support the V5.2 protocol. CONSTITUTION: When a wireless local loop(WLL) controller converts a V5.2 protocol message into a public switched telephone network(PSTN) line protocol message, the WLL controller comprises the steps as follows. If the WLL controller receives an origination request, the WLL controller checks an originator and a recipient to check the message. If the message is abnormal, the WLL controller transmits an error message to a call processor. If the message is normal, the WLL controller decides whether the message is a line signal or an address signal, and changes a selected signal into a PSTN line protocol signal, to transmit the message to a 2-wire or a multi-frequency code(R2MFC) processor of the WLL controller. The WLL controller analyses a signal received from a V5.2 processor to transmit a line state and address information to an exchange. An R2MFC processor controls a tone generation of a tone generator. When the WLL controller converts the PSTN line protocol message into the V5.2 protocol message, the WLL controller comprises the steps as follows. If the WLL controller receives a subscriber protocol signal from the PSTN exchange, the WLL controller analyses the signal to transmit a line state and address information to the V5.2 processor. The WLL controller checks the received signal to decide whether the signal is a line signal or an address signal, and maps the signal in an information field to convert the signal into the V5.2 protocol message, then transmits the V5.2 message to the call processor. |
