PURPOSE: A device/method for an asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) interface of a base station controller(BSC) in a mobile communication system, is provided to array transmission line data having multi ports according to ATM cells for transceiving the arrayed data, and to multiplex eight ATM layer interface units and an inter communication unit for transmitting cells, and to demultiplex ATM cells delivered from other blocks to transmit the demultiplexed ATM cells to corresponding ports. CONSTITUTION: E1 interface units(311) directly connected to a base station array data with an E1 format, and detect alarms. Asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) layer interface units(312) assemble a data stream with the E1 format delivered from the E1 interface units(311) into ATM cells, and reversely, disassemble ATM cells into an E1 stream, to deliver the assembled/disassembled result to the E1 interface units(311). A MUX/DEMUX(313) multiplexes the ATM cells delivered from the ATM layer interface units(312) to transmit the multiplexed ATM cells to other blocks, and distributes inputted ATM cells to the corresponding ATM layer interface units(312).
