PURPOSE: An apparatus for supplying a call waiting service of a telephone is provided to display a telephone number of an optional subscriber on a liquid crystal display(LCD) of a registered call waiting service subscriber's telephone, when a call is made from the optional subscriber while the registered call waiting service subscriber talks over the phone with a specific subscriber. Therefore, the registered call waiting service subscriber can maintain a present call with the specific subscriber or convert the present call into a call with the optional subscriber by recognizing the displayed telephone number. CONSTITUTION: A ring signal detector(4) detects a ring signal supplied from a telephone office through a transceive block(2), and supplies the ring signal to a micro computer(6). The microcomputer(6) drives a telephone output block(8) to make the telephone output block(8) ring a telephone bell. When a call is made from an optional subscriber while a user talks over the phone with a specific subscriber through the transceive block(2), the microcomputer(6) receives a character signal of the optional subscriber to decode the character signal, and supplies the decoded character signal to a character signal generator(14). The user talks over the phone with other party through a handset block(10). A key input block(12) supplies a specific key signal to the telephone office through the microcomputer(6) and the transceive block(2) by key operations of the user, and selects whether a call is converted into the call of the optional subscriber. The character signal generator(14) generates a character signal for displaying substantial characters on the basis of the decoded character signal, and supplies the generated character signal to a liquid crystal display(LCD) block(16), so that the user may see a telephone number of the optional subscriber through the LCD block(16).
