PURPOSE: A method for setting up a screen position according to the aspect ratio is provided so that defect generation can be restricted by setting up the screen position at once according to variations of the aspect ratio. CONSTITUTION: A method for setting up a screen position of an image display device according to the aspect ratio includes the following steps. Firstly, offset values for each aspect ratio is set up in advance. In order to discriminate whether an inputted image source is included in the screen, a part of the region which is not included in a screen output region is set up as a detection region in advance. Thereafter, in the case that the screen of the inputted image source is positioned in the detection region, the screen position is set up according to the offset value. At this time, a digital television is employed as the image display device. Therefore, as soon as the aspect ratio is varied, the screen position is set up according to such variation. As a result, it is possible to restrict generation of defects.
