PURPOSE: A muffler capable of varying resonant frequency is provided to effectively reduce the noise of exhaust gas by properly varying the resonant frequency band of the muffler based on the driving speed of an engine. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas inlet pipe(2) and an exhaust gas outlet pipe(3) are inserted into a cylindrical housing(1) in parallel to each other. The exhaust gas inlet pipe(2) and the exhaust gas outlet pipe(3) pass through two partitions(4) which are installed in the housing(1) for supporting the exhaust gas inlet pipe(2) and the exhaust gas outlet pipe(3). A plurality of exhaust ports are formed in predetermined portions of the exhaust gas inlet pipe(2) and the exhaust gas outlet pipe(3). A driving gear(8a) of a driving motor(8) is connected to a gear of the exhaust gas inlet pipe(2). The driving motor(8) is connected to a controller so as to be driven upon receiving a control current from the controller. An alternate voltage detector(9) is connected to an input terminal of the controller so as to detect the driving speed of the engine.
