In the present invention there is disclosed a process for preparing starch-degrading products with narrow distribution of molecular weight by splitting starch or derivatives thereof in aqueous dispersion, suspension or solution. The invented process is characterized in that starch or derivatives thereof are subjected in absence of enzymes or acids and in aqueous dispersion, suspension or aqueous solution to high-pressure homogenization under pressure of at least 50 to 200 MPa at a temperature ranging from 5 to 95 degC. The products are suitable for preparing pharmaceutical preparation intended for clinical preferably parenteral applications, further for peritoneal dialysis or for preparing substitutes of blood plasma.
