PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyolefin while decreasing the formation of gel and/or oligomer by carrying out the vapor-phase polymerization of an olefinic monomer in the presence of a specific catalyst and a specific substance while adding a sacrifice monomer or a Lewis base to the system. SOLUTION: A polyolefin is produced by the vapor-phase polymerization of (A) an olefinic or diolefinic monomer in the presence of (B) a vanadium catalyst system and (C) an inert granular substance while adding (D) a sacrifice monomer preferably selected from (di)olefinic hydrocarbons, vinylaromatic compounds, or the like, or (E) a Lewis base preferably selected from ethers, alcohols, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, and the like, to the system. The component D is preferably (ethylidene)norbornene, or the like, and the component E is preferably isopropanol, butylamine, di-t-butylphenol, and the like.
