PURPOSE: A LCD driver using EL(electro luminescence) light source is provided to detect an average brightness value per a line or a field unit to control the brightness of an EL light source in accordance with the brightness of a screen, thereby saving a consumption power and enhancing a contrast. CONSTITUTION: The LCD driver using EL light source comprises a LCD(42), two data drivers(38,40), a scan driver(36), an EL light source driver(44), a memory(30), a sensor(32) and a controller(34). The data drivers(38,40) respectively drive even data lines(Dm-3) and odd data lines(Dm-2) of the LCD(42) to supply data signal to the lines. The scan driver(36) drives the scan lines(Sn) of the LCD to supply scan signals the scan lines. The EL light source driver(44) drives an EL light source(6) of the LCD. The memory(30) is commonly connected to the data drivers(38,40). The sensor(32) is connected to the memory(40). The controller(34) is commonly connected to the memory(30), the sensor(32), the scan driver(36) and the EL light source driver(44) to control the brightness of the light source.
