PURPOSE: A power saving operational control method and apparatus is provided to achieve improved power saving effect by calculating the preset temperature for power saving operation to be higher than the preset temperature for normal operation. CONSTITUTION: A power saving operational control apparatus comprises an indoor air temperature sensing unit(106); an operation control unit(102) for permitting a user to input a preset temperature and a power saving operation signal; a control unit(104) of calculating a preset temperature for the power saving operation by using the temperature constant obtained from the change of indoor air temperature sensed by the indoor air temperature unit and the time of reaching the preset temperature input through the operation control unit; and a compressor driving unit(110) for controlling compressor turn on/off operation in accordance with the result of comparison between the preset temperature calculated by the control unit and the indoor air temperature sensed by the indoor air temperature sensing unit.
