PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotational position detector of low cost which can reduce inertia and increase positional precision. SOLUTION: In this rotational position detector, a reference protruding part is formed in a reference position of a side surface of a detecting gear 102 coaxially fixed to a rotary shaft of a rotating member. A first magnetic sensor 21 is arranged in the vicinity of a tooth train of the detecting gear 102, and positional information of the rotating member is generated by detecting the change of a magnetic field which is caused by unevenness of the gear tooth. A second magnetic sensor 22 is arranged in the vicinity of rotational locus of the reference protruding part, and reference positional information is generated.
