The invention concerns a method for controlling the grilling of a food product set in a grill appliance such as a toaster (1) or oven, said appliance comprising in particular heating elements (4), a heating chamber, a grill selector being provided for adjusting the level of browning for the food product, means for stopping the electricity supply for the heating elements when the level of browning is reached, said device comprising a light-receiving system consisting of at least an LDR photo-resistive element (42), the light reflected by the food being brought up to the surface of said element(s). The invention is characterised in that it consists in measuring the evolution in time of a signal G representing the light reflectivity of the food, and transforming at least one characteristic of that evolution into at least a grilling state of the food. Several sensors can be used.
