PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance electromagnetic wave shielding effect with as higher electromagnetic wave shielding effect at broad frequency bands, provide an electromagnetic wave absorption effect and enhance near-net shape property by forming from a casting containing grains dispersed in a nonmagnetic metal for shielding or absorbing electromagnetic waves. SOLUTION: A magnetic material, a dielectric material or a composite thereof is dispersed in a matrix made of a light metal, e.g. Mg, Al, Li and alloys thereof to obtain a light and high rigidity electromagnetic wave shield material and electromagnetic wave absorbents, each having a satisfactory conductivity and magnetic properties. Fig. (a) schematically shows an example applied to cabinets of electronic apparatus. Fig. (b) shows that by having a magnetic or dielectric material located in large amount in a surface part to be a cabinet inner surface, the effects of absorbing electromagnetic waves generated in the apparatus and reducing the electromagnetic wave interfaces in the apparatus are enhanced.
