PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of power regeneration of a hybrid wheeled construction machine. SOLUTION: A wheeled construction machine has a driving axle, which is driven normally and a duel-purpose axle which normally is a non-driving axle and a driving axle at the time of change-over. Under certain conditions with which power regeneration is practiced, for instance when a brake pedal is operated or the operation of an acceleration pedal is released while a retarder switch is in an on-state, the dual-purpose axle operating as the non-driving axle is changed to the driving axle so as make the load of power regeneration shored.
