PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of eliminating exceeding of a heat loss without quenching a superconducting magnet. SOLUTION: The cooler for a superconducting magnet 1 for feeding a refrigerant to a channel to cool comprises a mechanical circulating means 6 and a thermal circulating means 5 provided in a cooling system of the magnet 1, a switching means 10 for switching operations of the means 6 and 5, and a monitor means (differential pressure measuring instrument) 13 for monitoring a change of a thermal load between a refrigerant supply unit and a refrigerant return unit in the magnet 1. Thus, the means 10 can control an operation based on the monitored result of the means 13.
