PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a road, a railroad, a landmark and the name of the road or the railroad readily understandably even in the display of, e.g. a portable telephone set small in screen size. SOLUTION: A road graphics is extracted (S101) in the case of generating a map from a housing map. A center line is extracted among line segment array constituting edges of the road graphics (S102). Then, an intersecting point with another center line is calculated by extending the extracted center line (S103). The distance from the extracted center line to the line segment array constituting the edges of the road graphics is calculated to acquire a road width (S104). Further, a route is calculated by searching the extracted center line and the intersecting point and plotted with a prescribed width (S105).
