PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high connecting precision to prevent the connection failure or connection loss and to prevent the deterioration in transmission characteristic and the breakage of an optical fiber by mainly containing a compound oxide of Mg, Al and Si, and setting the thermal expansion ratio to a specified value or less and the density to a specified value or more. SOLUTION: This optical fiber connector member is a connecting member for mutually connecting optical fibers or connecting an optical fiber to various optical elements, and it is formed of a ferrule 1 and a sleeve 2. The optical fiber connector member is mainly composed of a compound oxide of Mg, Al and Si, and a thermal expansion coefficient at 10-40 deg.C is 2×10-6/ deg.C or less and a density is 2.3 g/cm3 or more. When the thermal expansion coefficient exceeds 2×10-6/ deg.C, a high connecting precision of sub-micron order cannot be obtained so that a connection loss or connection failure is easily caused. When the density is less than 2.3 g/cm3, a dense sintered body cannot be obtained, so that the moisture in the atmosphere is easily adsorbed, resulting in the deterioration in the transmission characteristic.
