PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal element and a method for removing air bubbles, which surely removes air bubbles in the case they are generated inside the liquid crystal element. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal element formed by filling a closed space formed between the upper and lower substrates 4, 6, with a liquid crystal composition and in the case air bubbles are generated in the closed space filled with the liquid crystal composition, the air bubbles are removed by cutting off at least a part of a sealant 1 sticking the upper and lower substrates 4, 6.
