PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a local area communication system and method by which unnecessary cost is not incurred, and the possibility of congestion of a public network is does not occur, when providing information service to only a mobile communication terminal resident in a local area. SOLUTION: An information processor 2 is connected to communications equipment 3 to provide an information service only to a mobile communication terminal resident in the communication area of the communications equipment 3 or in a local area. Since this information service does not need go through public networks, the communication charge paid to communication enterprise can be reduced, and the maintenance of information in the information processor 2 can easily be made. Moreover, since local area information is provided not from the public network but from each communications equipment, the load on the public network can be relieved.
