PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent fine iron particles or the like in a chemical strengthening treatment liquid from being attached on a glass substrate so as to suppress formation of a raised portion which would cause thermal asperity or head crash. SOLUTION: In a fabrication method of a glass substrate for an information recording medium comprising the step of chemically strengthening the substrate by contacting the glass substrate with a chemical strengthening treatment liquid containing a chemical strengthening salt, a chemical strengthening salt, for example, with concentrations of Fe and Cr to be detected by an ICP emission analysis method or a fluorescent X-ray analysis method are equal to or less than 500 ppb, respectively, is used.
