PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a performance lesson in accordance with a purpose of the lesson in each mode in the case of performing lessons on music data containing chords in different lesson modes. SOLUTION: The CPU 1 of this performance teaching apparatus stores note data in RAM 3 via a FDD controller 6 or a MIDI interface 7 based on the program of ROM 2, and corrects the note data of chords overlapping in their sounding periods so that the whole sounding periods overlap together, and makes the LEDs 9 corresponding to the pitch data of the plural note data emit light via an LED controller 5. When, in a certain lesson mode, the CPU 1 judges the performance result as correct, in which an arbitrary key of a keyboard 8 was started to be operated within a predetermined time after the light was started to emit, and in another lesson mode, plural keys, corresponding to the LEDs 9 made to emit light within a predetermined time after the light was emitted, are started to be operated, the CPU 1 judges the performance result as correct regardless of the order of start of operation.
