Nucleotide sequences from mitochondrial DNA of fungi, useful as probes and targets, e.g. for diagnostic detection and identification in medicine or agriculture

Nucleotide sequences (A) comprising at least part of the F1 fragment (about 5.2 kb) of mitochondrial DNA that is bordered by the genes for tRNA-Met and cytochrome oxidase COX1 (I) or an analog or complement of (I) is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method for detecting or identifying fungi using (A) as probes; (2) nucleotide primers comprising (A); (3) reagent for detection/identification of fungi comprising at least one (A) as probe; and (4) process for homologous recombination using (A), e.g. for transformation of mitochondrial DNA in fungi.
