摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the improvement of usability and operability by eliminating a toner image wastefully formed and suppressing the wasteful consumption of toner and toner scattering by detecting the quantity of a transfer material held and changing an image forming interval formed on a second image carrier based on information. SOLUTION: The residual amount of the transfer material (paper) P is detected at the inside of a cassette 14 by a paper existence/absence sensor 15, and the image forming interval formed on the intermediate transfer belt 6 is changed at the point of time when the residual amount of the paper becomes less than the specified number of sheets, so that the wasteful toner consumption is evaded. Thus, for instance, a distance between images may be >=270 mm whereas plain paper throughput is set as letter size lateral (216 mm) feed/24 ppm and the image forming interval is set as 84 mm. Thus, the distance between the images is changed to a specified distance (270 mm) by changing a laser exposure writing timing controlled by a CPU for a main body control at the point of time when the residual amount of the paper becomes less than a specified level, so that the throughput is changed.
