PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make appropriately processable the duplication of a deteriorated data tape in a short processing time without degrading the performance of a system nor drastically altering the application of a host computer, even in a data tape once excluded from the state under the application control. SOLUTION: This automatic tape duplicating device is constituted so that the number of passing times recorded on the data tape 5a is read by a tape driver 4a, and the read number of passing times is recorded in a memory 3a of a library controller 3, and the data tape 5a having the number of passing times exceeding a specified number is selected by a controller 3b in accordance with the recorded contents of the memory 3a, then the contents of the selected data tape 5a are duplicated direct to a new tape 5b by using the tape drivers 4a, 4b. |
