PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly detect the end point of a vehicle body even in the case of a vehicle in complicated form or on the weather condition of generating shadow. SOLUTION: A pattern 2 for vehicle length measurement and a pattern 3 for vehicle width measurement are formed on a road surface. Image data outputted from image pickup devices 1a-1d are processed on a state where a vehicle exists on these patterns, the front and rear end point positions of the vehicle are detected by specifying a position, where the pattern 2 for vehicle length measurement can not be detected, and an end point position on the side face of the vehicle is detected by specifying a position where the pattern 3 for vehicle width measurement can not be detected.
