METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING DMS IN GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and rapidly measure the presence of DMS (dimethyl sulfide) in coal gas, LP gas or the atmosphere or the content of DMS therein with high accuracy. SOLUTION: DMS in gas is collected to be reacted with iodine in a solvent to form a complex and the absorbancy of ultraviolet rays with a specific wavelength absorbed by the obtained complex and that of ultraviolet rays with a specific wavelength not absorbed by that are measured. Subsequently, the concn. of DMS in the gas is calculated on the basis of the difference between both measured absorbancies of ultraviolet rays to be displayed.
