PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heating and cooling treatment apparatus automated so as to automatically heat and cool an object to be treated, for example, a sample housing container only by setting the same in the apparatus by a worker for a predetermined time before returning the same to the detaching work station thereof. SOLUTION: A work station 11, a cooling treatment part 12 and a heating treatment part 13 are set in adjacent relationship in this order and a moving body 14 is arranged above them so as to be reciprocally movable forwardly and rearwardly and the lift body 24 supported on the moving body 14 and holding at least one sample housing container 35 to move up and down is provided. The movement of the moving body 14 and the lift body 24 is controlled by a control device to set the sample container to the lift body 35 at the work station 11 and the sample container is successively moved to the heating treatment part 13 and the cooling treatment station 12 to be finally returned to the work station 11.
