SOLUTION: In the case of updating a system by a user computer 51, an agent 66 carries its own current system information (the version of Kernel, Utility, etc., system constitution and hardware specification) 33 to a provided computer 80 and extracts only a source updating part 3 from an old source file 35 and an up-to-date source file 36 stored in the computer 80 on the basis of respective updating history information 34. Simultaneously an updating procedure 38 is prepared and carried back by an agent 68, a source file in a CD-ROM 30 to be a base, an updating part 39 stored in itself up to the preceding time and a current source updating part 37 are combined, an up-to-date system 31 is constructed in accordance with the updating procedure 38, the system information 33 is also updated, and the source of the changed part changed this time is also stored.
