PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily conduct 2-way communication between one master communication unit and a plurality of slave communication units on an ATM communication network by connecting one selected slave communication unit among a plurality of the slave communication units to an ATM bus that is preset corresponding to the master communication unit and allowing the selected slave communication unit and the master communication unit to communicate with each other. SOLUTION: In the case that the master communication unit #1 has already been connected to any of the slave communication units #1 to #4 through a PVC path m2, the processing continues to a next step. In the case that the master communication unit #2 is not connected to any of the slave communication units #1 to #4 through a PVC path m3, the connection setting processing is applied between the master communication unit #2 and the slave communication unit #1 through the PVC path m3. The connection setting between the master communication unit #2 and the slave communication unit #1 through the PVC path m3 is similar to the case with the connection setting with respect to the master communication unit #1, an output port PORT (2) of the PVC path m3 is rewritten into a PORT (3) in a switching table of the slave communication unit #1 and the PVC path m3 is connected to the slave communication unit #1.
