A fitting (1), such as a catch plate fixed in a door or window channel by grub screws (6), has holes (8) to receive the screws which are made in two portions . An outer tapering portion (9) which acts as a guide for the screw, and an inner portion (9A), polygonal in cross-section, in which a thread is cut by the advancing screw. The screws can be of stainless steel or a hard-tempered metal.
