The base station includes a radio interface unit (LE) for implementing a data radio interface (LS(D)), a standard interface unit (SS) for implementing a conductor-based standard interface (V.24), and a control unit (SE) for controlling both interface units. The radio interface unit implements furthermore a speech signal radio interface (LS(S)) for speech data, whereby the control unit undertakes a data conversion between the interface units at existence of speech data at the radio interface unit or standard interface unit, and controls the standard interface for a transmission and reception of speech data, accordingly.
